The campaign for a pavement along Tycroes Road has been raised at the latest Carmarthenshire Council meeting.

Tycroes County Councillor Tina Higgins presented the petition to the July full Council meeting on behalf or residents in her ward.

On presenting the petition, Cllr Higgins said: "In Tycroes this has been one of the longest running and most spoken of issues.

"In short, for over 25 years there has been a campaign to have a pavement put along Tycroes Road from the expanding estate of Fforest Fach"

Previously, planning for extra houses in Fforest Fach and Parc Gwernen estate resulted in the Council securing funds from developers to install a pavement if further development went ahead.

Cllr Higgins explained to the Council about the dangers of the road without a pavement.

"The road is a steep and narrow road which goes from the centre of the village to the bottom and into Pantyffynnon, she added.

"There is a significant population base at the lower end of the village, who often walk up and down the road to school/ the local amenities.

"It is generally accepted to be unsafe and many people report near misses or being clipped by wing mirrors as they use the road. Something has to be done before a more serious accident happens, possibly involving children walking to or from school. It's only a matter of time before something does."

The petition received 150 signatures and was presented to the Chair of the Council.
