A former headteacher has listened to the advice he gives pupils by quitting his job to follow his dream.

Edward Dennis, originally from Gwaun cae Gurwen, has spent his career juggling teaching and performing in the pro-wrestling circuit.

He has a degree in Maths and trained to be a teacher in Cardiff before moving to Berkshire, where he took up a position at an independent school in 2010.

The 31-year-old said: “This is obviously a massive risk to take leaving a job with a guaranteed income, but this is something I’ve wanted to do since I was five years old.

"I was a resident tutor, boarding tutor and lived at the school so I am really attached but all the pupils are excited.

"I was also the headmaster of the primary department.

“I have been taking part in shows one day a week on the weekend and due to teaching I’ve had to turn down jobs, but now I am hoping to have about three shows a week.”

To begin with the Maths teacher was secretive about his new hobby, but he soon found ways of incorporating wrestling into his professional life.

“I started out not telling anyone, but then they began to find out so I went to the PE teacher and we organised a show for Sport Relief.

“I have done a few shows at the school since then and they were really exciting.

When he left his classroom for the final time on July 7, Eddie uploaded a video onto his social media page discussing his decision to become a pro-wrestler which has gone viral.

“I never expected the video to do so well. I’ve had messages from people saying that my story has inspired them which has been incredible.”

Despite living outside Wales for 10 years, Eddie’s character Eddie 'Pride of Wales' Dennis retains some nods towards his heritage with moves including the “Severn Bridge” and “Next Stop Drive”.

He said: “My parents live in Pontarddulais and I really enjoy recreating the Welsh and English rivalry in the ring.

“The idea is to make enough money Friday, Saturday and Sunday so I don’t have to do anything else.

“The ambition is to be making all my money from wrestling.”
