A brand new 16 space car park has opened at Amman Valley Hospital with thanks to the support of Amman Valley Hospital’s League of Friends.

The car park was officially opened by Jonathan Edwards MP on Thursday, July 20.

The Hospital’s League of Friends contributed almost £70,000 to the project thanks to the generous legacy of the late Mrs Gwenllian Morgan of Tircoed Road, Glanaman.

The project involved new parking spaces, improvement works to the hospital driveway and the installation of a new security barrier.

Amman Valley’s Hospital’s League of Friends was established in 1948 and will be celebrating its 70th birthday next year.

The League has contributed over £550,000 to the hospital and is currently fundraising for a new x-ray machine with over £50,000 already raised.

Mr Iwan Lewis, Chair of Amman Valley League of Friends said: “It is an honour to be supporting these much needed improvement works at Amman Valley Hospital. Thank you to the late Mrs Gwen Morgan for her generosity and gift to the League of Friends, and to all who have the confidence in us that we will use their money for the benefit of Amman Valley Hospital. “

Jonathan Edwards MP said: “The Amman Valley Hospital League of Friends provides invaluable support to the hospital and the wider community. It is quite incredible how their support has enabled many developments at the hospital over recent years. The new car park has addressed much needed capacity issues at the hospital by a generous legacy left to the group. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for their continued support to the hospital and wish them the very best with their next project of bringing an x-ray machine to the Amman Valley. “

Linda Williams, County Director for Carmarthenshire, Hywel Dda University Health Board: “On behalf of Hywel Dda University Health Board I wish to thank the Amman Valley Hospital League of Friends for their generosity and support. Their work adds value to the services we provide at Amman Valley Hospital and we value their work greatly. Thank you once again for your kindness and generosity.”
