The Amman Valley’s bravest fundraiser has scooped an award posthumously for his amazing charity work.

Ryan was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in 2006, but rather than sit back and accept his illness, he battled the disease – a year later, he set up the charity Ryan4Leukaemia to raise as much money as possible to help hospitals and leukaemia patients.

Over the last decade, tens of thousands of pounds have been raised to improve facilities in hospitals and upgrade essential medical equipment, thanks to his efforts and that of his loyal supporters.

Ryan Davies died in November last year at the age of 32 and his brother Nathan has been continuing Ryan’s work by raising funds for the charity.

On Friday, July 7, Radio Carmarthenshire held their annual Local Hero Awards at Parc y Scarlets which celebrates special people in the community doing amazing things that make a difference. These awards help to recognise and reward the unsung local heroes across Carmarthenshire.

Ryan was named the winner of the award for Outstanding Bravery and was accepted by Nathan.

“It was a total honour the collect the award on behalf of Ryan at the ceremony. My parents attended the event which was amazing, said Nathan.

A remembrance evening for Ryan Davies is taking place this Friday, July 28 at Parc y Scarlets in aid of Ryan’s charity.

Tickets are sold out for the event and the amount raised on the evening is set to take the charity’s figure to over £50,000 – a target set by Ryan.

“All the nurses who looked after Ryan are attending the event and Phil Steele and John Hartson are presenting the night.

“There will be performances from our cousins Genetically Modified and Void and we are auctioning boxing gloves signed by Anthony Joshua and signed items by the Wales and Lions squad.

“Every single penny we raise is distributed to worthwhile causes. We are waiting on the completion of Ty Bryngwyn Hospice in Llanelli who have requested seven new television sets.
