An Amman Valley schoolboy has decided to raise money to help an Ammanford man who was brutally attacked over 10 years ago.

Dilan Morgan, from Cwmgors, took part in the Pembrey Invincible on July 1, Taff Kids Tenby on July 8 and is now set to face the almighty IronKids this September to raise money for Paul’s Pledge.

The five-year-old has raised over £400 so far with a JustGiving Page and cash donations from friends and family.

The reason behind Dilan’s good deed was down to a presentation event held to mark the ten year anniversary of Paul Pugh’s attack.

Paul, now aged 36, was left in a coma for two months following the unprovoked assault outside the Old Cross Inn on January 6, 2007, for which four men were jailed.

He now regularly gives motivational and educational talks in schools to give an insight into the devastating effects alcohol-fuelled violence can have.

His ‘pledge’ is to ask people to show support to his campaign and vow to never condone violent behaviour, to walk away from aggression and violence and encourage friends and family to do the same.

Despite the fact that he will never fully recover from injuries that left him having to learn how to walk and talk again, Paul has bravely used his experience to campaign against alcohol fuelled violence.

Dilan’s mum Kathrine said: “Dilan wanted to donate his money box to help Paul Pugh after meeting him on the tenth anniversary presentation held at the Fishermen’s in January this year.

“After seeing Paul in a wheelchair, Dilan started to ask questions about why he can’t walk and he wanted to go home and give Paul money from piggy bank to help him.

“At the presentation, Paul gave Dilan a high five and it made his day.

“The event also made me realise that Paul’s story is frightening and his therapy is on-going so we should help him out.

“Dilan and myself then decided to help by asking for sponsorship and Dilan enjoys sporting events so we decided to combine the events with the fundraising.”

Commenting on the generous idea by Dilan and his family, Nesta Pugh, Paul’s mother, said: “We can’t thank Dilan enough for what he wants to do in order to raise money for Paul.

“Paul is very overwhelmed and we find it very touching that someone so young is doing something to extraordinary.

“Normally it’s adults who raise money but for a five-year-old it is amazing.

“Katherine and the rest of Dilan’s family must be very proud of him.”

Sponsorship forms are at the Fisherman’s, Glanaman; Square and Compass, Llandyfan; South Wales Guardian office in Ammanford and Star Animal Feed, Glanaman.
