Aching limbs and muscles are likely to be the order of the day this weekend for five Cardigan friends walking the full 60 miles of the Ceredigion coastal path.

A chat between the pals during a pool match towards the end of last year blossomed into a challenge to undertake the arduous, continuous trek from Cardigan to Ynys Las on the Dyfi estuary and raising funds for three local worthy causes.

Builders merchants manager Mathew Morgan, teacher William Bowen, builder Gareth Owen, solicitor Alan Lewis and care director Neil Griffiths are in strict training for the walk north that starts at the bronze otter statue adjacent to Prince Charles Quay at 4am on Saturday and hopefully will be completed sometime on Sunday morning.

The walkers, who are raising funds for charities Cardigan Cancer Care, Cardigan Swimming Pool and the local branch of the RNLI, will be supported for the whole journey by friends, including celebrated endurance athlete Clive Evans.

Teacher William Bowen said “Helping the three very worthwhile charities drives us on as we all support the causes and hope to give them a substantial financial boost.”

Solicitor Alan Lewis told the Tivy-Side “As a born and bred Cardigan boy I jumped at the opportunity to undertake a difficult physical challenge while raising funds for three fantastic local good causes.

“The support that we have had already has been great and any further donations large or small would be gratefully received. “
