A Betws mum is set to face her biggest challenge to raise funds for a lifesaving organisation which has helped her poorly daughter.

Hannah Rees, who works in Fresh Bites in Ammanford, has signed up for the Cardiff 10K which is taking place on September 3 to raise money for Kidney Wales who have helped her daughter Holly-Rosina Davies since she has been ill.

Holly-Rosina, 4, suffers from a mild form kidney disease and has already had three operations, but Hannah is determined to complete the challenge head.

Hannah said: “She has a reflux condition where her left kidney has 56 per cent function and her right has 44 per cent.

“She has had three operations so far to repair the tubes.

“She was only four months old having her first operation and had a catheter fitted for two months after that.”

The Ysgol Betws pupil still has check-up and regularly suffers with urine and kidney infections, but Hannah says that it never gets her down and that Holly is always smiling.

“We have had massive help from Kidney Wales have been great with information on her condition, so I would just like to raise awareness for the organisation and for everybody who has kidney problems,” she said.

“Holly-Rosina’s condition is still on going and we have been told we have just got to wait to see what the future holds.”

Hannah’s college Bobbie Harries has agreed to take on the run alongside her and have both started training.

“It is going to be tough but the aim is to raise as much money as possible for this amazing organisaiton,” added Hannah

For 50 years Kidney Wales has been at the forefront of patient care, wellbeing and research for families living with this chronic illness.

The monies raised have enabled the group to provide lifesaving equipment, fund staff and refurbishments for units and most recently change the law on organ donation in Wales.
