The Quadrant Shopping Centre and Swansea Market were evacuated on this afternoon after a suspect package was found.
Police have confirmed the incident was a hoax.
One man has been arrested.
Areas of the city centre were cordoned off by emergency services shortly after 2pm today.
South Wales Police said: “An incident occurred at 14:05hrs today in the Quadrant Shopping Centre, Swansea, where a suspect package was placed – which later has turned out to be a hoax.
“The Quadrant was evacuated with the assistance of our partners and within a short period of time, one male was arrested – and the police are continuing with their enquiries.
“South Wales Police take these matters very seriously and acknowledge the significant disruption caused to those in the city centre. We would like to thank people for their patience and understanding with regards to the evacuation. The area of the Quadrant will reopen shortly.
“While we ask people to be vigilant, we will take robust action against anyone who causes significant disruption through hoax activity.”
The Quadrant Shopping Centre has now reopened and buses are running again but passengers can expect delays.
