An Ammanford stage school has presented Wales Air Ambulance with a cheque as a tribute to one of the teachers who was tragically killed last year.

Students of Encore Stage School got the opportunity to visit the charity’s headquarters and present the crew of Wales Air Ambulance with £5,000 on April 11.

The group raised the funds after recording a heartfelt song as a tribute to former dance teacher Rebecca Evans, originally from Penygroes, who was killed in a car accident on the M4 last November.

Encore leader Elin Murphy said: “No words or money can change the heartache of losing Becca, who was such an inspiration and companion to all the kids, but we are so grateful for the heroic efforts of the crew for saving Becca's son and partner.

“We had the warmest welcome from the Wales Air Ambulance team and we were lucky enough to meet the pilot and paramedic who are the heroes, who save thousands of lives every year.

“It will be a memory that we will treasure for ever. We hope to carry on with the fundraising and we would like to thank the service for everything they do.”

It costs the lifesaving service £1,500 ever they send a helicopter to an emergency, and Erin wants to continue to raise funds for the charity.

A touching video of the stage school performing Anfonaf Angel (I’m Sending You An Angel) went viral earlier this year, and it wasn’t until after the recording that the group realised it is the national song for Wales Air Ambulance.

“I was first aiming for £1,500 and then we hit £2,000 really quickly after the video was put on social media on New Year’s Eve,” Elin added.

“We presented the crew with £5,000 but I am now aiming to keep on going.”

Elin also has plans to host a fundraising concert this June in memory of her friend to raise more cash for the Wales Air Ambulance.

Mark Stevens, Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to the Encore Stage School for fundraising for WAA, and raising such an outstanding amount for us.

“We are incredibly touched that they would think of us during this difficult time, and would fundraise for Wales Air Ambulance in memory of Rebecca.

“As a charity, we rely on kind support and donations to fund our missions, and their fundraising will help to keep our four helicopters flying across Wales.”
