Plans for a nightclub in Ammanford have once again been quashed by county planners.

They have refused planning permission for a nightclub in the snooker hall above Shoppers World because of fears of noise and disturbance.

Applicant David Griffiths, had expected to run the enterprise above Shoppers World at 18 Wind Street, moving the snooker club to the ground floor.

This was the second application by Mr Griffiths who had his previous bid refused by Carmarthenshire County Council in 2012 and following appeal to have the ruling overturned was further blocked by the Welsh Government.

In his most recent application Mr Griffiths assured planners that only “a small amount” of noise would be generated by the nightclub if approved, which would be “unlikely” to be a significant issue for the area.

However, residents of nearby roads including Baptist Lane and Wind Street voiced their concerns over the application by submitting rejection letters to county planners.

County councillor Deian Harries and town councillor Wendy Evans both sent clear objections with Cllr Evans saying that she “feels for the residents of Baptist Lane and Wind Street,” which includes women aged 92 and 87, who “do not want to be disturbed in the early hours of the morning.”

Planners subsequently refused the application.

In his report, Development Management Manger at Carmarthenshire County Council said the proposal "shall cause harm to the amenity of the occupiers of the existing dwellings and flats in the vicinity of the application site by reason of noise emanating from the proposed nightclub".

It went on to say that the noise and general disturbance of partygoers in the early hours of the morning was also taken into account, when local residents could "reasonably expect peace and quiet".
