A Cross Hands man turned a minor car park incident into a knife point confrontation, a judge heard today.

David Christopher Thomas, 45, threatened to stab two dogs owned by a woman who complained he had damaged her car.

Thomas, of Meadows Road, admitted a public order offence and two charges of possessing knives in a public place.

Nicola Powell, prosecuting, told Swansea crown court that on January 14 Thomas parked his car next to that of Heather Biddells’ at Parc Pemberton in Llanelli.

His door hit her car as he got out.

Thomas began to walk away but Mrs Biddells called after him and said he had damaged her car.

Thomas replied, “So what. I can do what I want.”

Mrs Biddells got out to check for damage and Thomas pulled out a knife and put it through the open back window and towards her two dogs.

Thomas was arrested by police while still in the car park.

After his arrest police took him to Ammanford police station where officers found a second knife in a plastic wallet.

Thomas told police he thought Mrs Biddells had threatened to set her dogs onto him and he had made threats of his own in return.

His barrister, David Williams, said he now realised his behaviour had been unacceptable.

Judge Paul Thomas said Thomas should have walked away from a minor car park incident.

“The courts have been concerned for a number of years about the production of knives during disputes.

“Fortunately no-one here was hurt,” he added.

Thomas, an admin assistant, was jailed for eight months, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to complete 20 days of a rehabilitation activity and 120 hours of unpaid work for the community.

He must also pay prosecution costs of £340 and a surcharge of £140.
