Spring finally arrived at a Capel Hendre care home last week as residents were treated to a visit from some furry friends.

Residents at Llys Newydd met a new four-legged friend at the home ahead of their Easter preparations.

A new born lamb was brought into the care home on March 29 along with several baby ducks, which live in the care home’s garden.

Activities co-ordinator Wendy Piekarski said: “The idea of bringing animals into the home is for residents to see new life.

“We have seven resident ducks which live in our garden and two cats which are adored by the residents.

“We all look after the ducks together and they often come inside to visit which always goes down well with our residents because they like holding them.”

Although the ducks are a returning feature, it was the first time for the home to welcome a lamb.

“The visit from the lamb was arranged by a member of staff who lives near a farm,” added Wendy.

“The residents loved it. We also have chickens ready to hatch in the garden and we’re hoping they will arrive in time for Easter.”

The lamb was passed around the eager residents, who were all keen to meet and smooth their new friend.

Resident Ethel Wheeler said: “I loved holding the little lamb, she started to fall asleep on me. It is nice to see new life beginning, especially in the spring.”

The care home is also planning on building a wheelchair friendly run in the garden to give residents access to the chickens and ducks.

The visits don’t stop there however as Enoch the therapy donkey will be stopping by on Easter Monday.
