A Towy Valley woman has gone the extra mile to raise money for a lifesaving charity close to her heart.

Lucy Llewellyn-Griffiths has raised over £1,000 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) lifesaving research by running Cardiff half marathon.

Lucy, from Nantgaredig, knows the importance of BHF as her mother is a BHF Heart Failure Specialist Nurse based at West Wales General Hospital.

Each day in Wales, 25 people lose their lives to cardiovascular disease which can devastate those they leave behind.

Thanks to the public’s generosity, BHF Cymru is able fund pioneering research, central to discovering vital treatments for people living with these conditions.

Lucy, works at Ffos-Las racecourse in Trimsaran, said: “I really enjoyed taking part in the half marathon in Cardiff and was delighted to do it for BHF. I could not believe the generosity of local people who provided donations which totalled over £1,000 and Im looking forward to taking part this year again.’

Jayne Lewis, BHF Fundraising Manager for South West Wales said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Lucy and also to everyone who sponsored her.

“Too many lives are lost in Wales each year, and we’re determined to do everything we can to protect more families from this devastation.

“Around 375,000 people across Wales this month are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease.

“Each year these devastating conditions claim the lives of more than 750 people per month in Wales alone and thanks to the local groups and organisations in the area we’ll be able to fund even more research into these conditions.”
