A residential home is set to re-open in Llandybie creating over 30 job opportunities.

Newly formed nursing home operator Padda Care Homes Limited has confirmed that they are set to re-open Glanmarlais Residential Home in January 2018.

The family run business is creating up to 35 jobs by opening the 37-room dementia specialist facility with hopes to eventually employ up to 70 members of staff within a five year timescale.

Glanmarlais Residential Home was closed in 2015 alongside Tegfan in Ammanford in favour of the Ty Dyffryn extra-care facility which opened last year.

Carmarthenshire County Council has been involved in obtaining grant funding for the project through community bureau Parc Amanwy.

Padda Care Homes Limited owner Kuldeep Singh said: “I am looking forward and can’t wait to open the home as soon as possible.

“Younger dementia seems to be all over Carmarthenshire and we have plans to expand the property further over time creating more rooms."

The newly improved home is set to have bilingual signage as well as bilingual speaking members of staff.

Llandybie councillors have welcomed the project.

Councillor Anthony Jones said: “This is without a doubt excellent news for Llandybie.

“Over the years there has been discussions of the building being demolished or transformed into something else but we have wanted the property to remain in as a residential home some time."

Councillor Anthony Davies added: “Employment and dementia care are all covered in this project which is excellent news."
