Rail operator Arriva Trains Wales is seeking to develop new partnerships across its network in an initiative aimed at making rail travel more accessible for disabled people in Ammanford.

As part of the train operators’ commitment to community inclusion, it is seeking to work closely with disabled people in and around the town by arranging visits to local support groups.

The company is aiming to increase awareness of the assistance that is available at stations and on trains, how to book assistance, the facilities available at stations and on trains, the accessibility improvements being delivered at stations and the benefits of a Disabled Persons’ Railcard.

A key part of the initiative is a train journey so that members can become familiar with their local station and the location of facilities such as dedicated spaces for wheelchairs on board trains.

Community Relations Manager Geraint Morgan said the initiative was designed to make rail travel easier and accessible for all.

He said: “Our train services provide a vital service in the community for employment, leisure and can have a real benefit for a person’s health and well-being.

“These visits are designed to give people the knowledge, experience and confidence to use the train. We’ll be talking about improvements that have been delivered at stations to improve accessibility and facilities for customers.”
