Cwmaman town council has announced the area now has four emergency defibrillators located throughout Glanaman and Garnant.

By working with the support of the Big Lottery Awards for All scheme the town council was able to secure funding to purchase the life-saving equipment, located in Garnant Stores, Cwmaman Community Centre, Clwb Godre'r Mynydd Du and the Farmers Arms.

The council said it was eager to make the community as safe and supportive as possible for residents and have therefore located the units at the venues which they say ensures maximum coverage of the community.

The units were installed by CJ Electrical.

Rob Venus, Community Development Officer said: “We are very happy to have been able to do this to support our community and the lives of our residents. I would encourage everyone to familiarise themselves with the location of their nearest AED. This isn’t an issue that only affects older people. Very young children can be affected by sudden cardiac arrest too”

“This is one step that Cwmaman Town Council is taking towards our work to improve the lives of each and every member of our community. It’s a very exciting time for us all and we look forward to hearing the community’s ideas and working with them to take them forward”

Cwmaman Mayor, Cllr Kevin Madge added: “I sincerely hope that our residents never have cause to use one of these units. However, should they ever find themselves in need of this emergency, life-saving, item then I am delighted that we have been able to make them available. We will be working with our providers over the coming month to organise public training events and we welcome all members of the community to attend”
