An Amman Valley walking group has recruited three new faces who will be leading the way in forthcoming adventures.

Brynaman Black Mountain Centre and Walking Well Carmarthenshire teamed up last year to create a walking group as part of Let’s Walk Cymru, a national scheme which aims to get as many people walking as possible for the sake of their mental and physical wellbeing.

The group has been continuing to grow over the last 12 months as members tackled their way around various footpaths in the area.

Due to the popularity of the group three members have recently qualified to become Health Walk Leaders. Teresa Dunn, Tim Dunn and Tina Antink stepped forward to volunteer to lead the fortnightly walks and recently completed their training at Dinefwr Park.

County development officer, Helen Williams, who has led most of the walks until now, said: “Walking Well Carmarthenshire has been set up to create walking groups around the county.

“We already have groups in St. Clears, Carmarthen, Llanelli and Kidwelly. People enjoy the walks as we ensure they're not too long for anyone and we go at a gentle pace.

“Even if a walker enjoys more energetic walks at other times, our walks are popular as they give a chance to admire the scenery and usually mean meeting new people.

“When I first came to Brynaman I had no idea what I would find but Walking Well Carmarthenshire had a great reception and the walkers were really keen to show me the places they’ve been walking and playing in since they were children.”

As newcomers, Teresa, Tim and Tina are now keen to get to know more walks in the area. Some will be reached on foot from the Black Mountain Centre, but others will be reached by road once the walkers have met at The Black Mountain Centre.

The trio are looking forward to working with other local walkers to learn new paths and introduce the routes to a wider audience.

The next walks will be on Tuesday, March 14. Walkers meet at The Black Mountain Centre at 10.15.
