A Swansea Valley schoolboy is set to have his work seen by thousands of shoppers after winning a creative competition organised by a Pontardawe superstore.

Primary schools throughout the Pontardawe area were invited to take part in the competition which was organised to promote healthy eating.

The competition was organised by Tesco as part of its commitment to encourage community involvement.

Llangiwg primary school pupil Lewis Stevens’ design creatively displayed the words ‘eat healthy’ spelt out in many different types of fruit and will feature on the side of hessian bags handed out for free at the store on Gwyn’s Drift.

The hessian bag with 10 year-old Lewis’ winning design was presented to him by Tesco community champion Sian Morgan as well as his prize of £25 worth of Tesco gift cards. Also for winning, his school will receive a Junior Chef Academy Workshop which will show and teach pupils about food and cooking healthily.

Sian Morgan, Tesco community champion said, “It’s great to see Lewis’s design printed onto all of the bags, we believed it was a great creative way of displaying healthy eating especially as he incorporated a variety of fruit.”

Acting head teacher at Llangiwg primary school, Mrs Sharon Jones, added “The school are very proud of Lewis for winning the competition and for winning the school a Junior Chef Academy workshop, the children are looking forward in taking part.”

Junior Chefs’ Academy is a leading provider of healthy eating workshops and food education events, helping children to develop an active interest in how food is produced and prepared.
