Residents of a Betws care home have been treated to a special concert to remember the patron saint of Wales.

Around 200 residents at Cartref Annwyl Fan Care Home celebrated St David’s Day with live music in their living room, thanks to a partnership between Music in Hospitals and Western Power Distribution (WPD).

Seven concerts have been arranged by the charity Music in Hospitals, who provide around 5,000 live music concerts a year for people in hospital wards, hospices, and care homes all over the country.

The shows have been provided free of charge thanks to electricity company WPD who used the performances to promote their Priority Services Register, a free service which allows vulnerable people to receive priority support in the event of a power cut.

WPD’s Karen Welch explained: “Our partnership with Music in Hospitals helps us to reach some of our more vulnerable customers and we are delighted to be able to provide.

“Sometimes power cuts can happen for reasons beyond our control, and we know it can be particularly worrying if you reply on electricity for medical equipment or if you are elderly or disabled.

“Our free Priority Service Register can give customers with specific needs a little extra help when needed”.

The concert was performed by Celtic violin, fiddle duo Pegbox and Welsh language singer-harpist Joy Cornock.

Care staff provided Welsh cakes and daffodils to help residents mark the occasion.

Robert Aitken CBE, Director of Music in Hospitals added: “We’re a charity that uses live music to make people feel happy.

“A lot of the people we reach can’t go out independently, so I can’t stress enough how important these concerts are as we’re able to bring live music directly to people who need it the most.

“Thanks to WPD nearly 200 people have had a professional-standard live music concert in their living room.”
