A Police community support officer based at Ammanford police station has been shortlisted for the first public-chosen Dyfed-Powys Police #WeCare award.

PCSO Jayde Probert received two nominations from members of the police cadets for her work as a police cadet leader.

Jayde joined Dyfed Powys Police as a PCSO in Carmarthen in 2014, before moving to Ammanford in 2016. She has covered a wide range of the community, from the town centre to the mountains of Upper Brynamman, and jumped at the opportunity to get involved with the Police Cadets last year.

She gives her time to supporting youngsters in their training and her nominees said she always puts 100 per cent effort into her lessons each week and helps people both in and out of the cadets.

One of the nominations read: “Jayde listens to us no matter what and does her best to help us. She cares about each person individually in and out of cadets.

“She always goes out of her way to make everyone feel special and safe. She has helped me with a lot of situations and always makes me feel better. She has also helped with a friend who isn't in cadets – she always asks how she's doing, which shows just how much she cares.”

On receiving her nomination, Jayde said: “One of the main aims of the cadet scheme is to give young people a chance to improve their future prospects, and prevent them from going down the wrong path. I wanted to be a part of this very influential time in their lives, and inspire them to identify and change the path they were currently on.

“I believe I have built up a strong, respectable relationship with the young people in my community, through the cadet scheme. I understand that when you’re 15 or 16 years old, you can sometimes feel like the world is on your shoulders, and in order to engage and communicate effectively, I needed to empathise with them.

“Something that may seem small to an older person could seem like the end of the world to a young person. I will always encourage them to talk to me, and try to help resolve any issues they bring forward. I make every effort to be accessible and approachable, which extends to all members of the community.”
