Labour councillors in Tycroes are taking action to tackle littering in their community.

Community Councillor Tina Higgins has witnessed a sudden surge of littering in Tycroes, particularly along the A483 Trunk road from Pont Abraham to Tycroes.

Litter left by passing motorists, which include plastic bottles and food cartons, can be seen on both sides of the main road.

Cllr Higgins said: "Littering in the village has been on the increase lately. In a one hour session we managed to pick up three bags of litter.”

“The bags were full of takeaway packaging from fast food and coffee outlets in Pont Abraham and Cross Hands.

“There are also empty glass beer and spirit bottles alongside roads off the main road.

“It's obvious that people are buying fast food in Pont Abraham services and Cross Hands, then throwing their takeaway waste out of their car as they go through Tycroes"

County Councillor Calum Higgins has already raised the issue with the trunk road agency and Carmarthenshire County Council enforcement team.

He said: "We've called for the trunk road agency to do a regular clean up from the roundabout and through the village.

“The Council enforcement team tell me that we need witnesses to take things further. If you see someone throwing litter from a Car please report it to the County Council.

"As a village we can keep Tycroes tidy, but only if we stamp it out together".
