Domino's Pizza could be coming to Ammanford.

The fast food chain lodged a planning application to Carmarthenshire County Council on Tuesday, February 14.

The proposal is for the change of use of 9 Cross Inn Buildings, College Street from a Class A1 retail into a Class A3 food and drink unit including an indoor seating area.

The American pizza restaurant, which has stores in Llanelli and Carmarthen, has stated in the proposal that the business "will encourage the beneficial reuse of a commercial unit within Ammanford town centre by creating jobs and reducing vacancies in the frontage and wider area".

The proposed development also aims to promote sustainable economic growth which is a key objective of Planning Policy Wales.

The site has been vacant for three years and the application proposes that Domino's Pizza would enhance the attractiveness of Ammanford.

The proposal states the business "would contribute positively towards the centres overall vitality and viability, whereas a continued vacancy at the subject premises would continue to have a negative impact on the overall role and attraction of the town centre and wider area".

Local member and county councillor Deian Harries owns Siop Esgidiau Ar Gered situated next door to the premises and has welcomed the news of the pizzeria opening in the town.

Cllr Harries said: "This is brilliant news for Ammanford and excellent to see a big brand investing in Ammanford.

"This is positive for the town centre and it is nice to see the shops on the square progressing along with the opening of a new barbers.

"The town centre is getting busier which shows that Ammanford is getting back on its feet."

The new store would be open between 11am until 11pm every day.
