A hula-hoop marathon has raised £129 for a children’s hospice in Wales as part of a fitness-themed fundraiser held at an Ammanford opticians.

Staff at Specsavers in Ammanford took part in the event which saw team members hula-hoop for a combined time of one hour and 23 minutes over one day in aid of Ty Hafan.

The hula-hoop marathon saw customers and locals joining in the sporting activities, which also included ping-pong ‘keepy-uppy’ relays.

Specsavers store manager in Ammanford, Lorna Phillips, said: “Inspired by the health kick many of us try to adopt at the start of the New Year we set a challenge for the staff that would push them both physically and mentally.

‘As tough as the hula-hoop marathon was for staff knowing that their efforts were raising money for the families at Ty Hafan made it all worthwhile.

“The challenge was a fantastic success that saw customers, friends and members of the community give generously to a cause we are so proud to support.”

Specsavers announced its partnership with Ty Hafan in September 2016 kicking off the year-long commitment with a donation of £10,958 - the amount it costs the charity to provide a family with 24 hours of care.
