A gang of men burst into a family home and demanded car keys from terrified occupants, including children, in Pontrdawe over the weekend.

A number of men, including one who was believed to have been armed with a knife, gained access to a property in Coed Cae at approximately 6.20pm on Saturday, February 11.

The man carrying a knife has been described as being a black man with a slight build who spoke with quite a soft English accent, possibly from Birmingham.

He was wearing a dark, hooded top or jacket at the time of the shocking incident with the hood up.

What has been described as a ski mask was being worn which covered the man’s face except for his eyes. He was also wearing black latex gloves.

The victims managed to raise the alarm with their neighbours and the police were called. Nobody was seriously injured.

Following a struggle, the men left the property without the keys but stole a mobile phone and cash before making off.

South Wales Police are now appealing for information following the aggravated burglary.

Detective Inspector Phil Sparrow, said: “This is a concerning incident which has left the victims traumatised and shocked.

“They were going about family life when the men walked into their home and asked for their car keys. They put up an extremely brave resistance which I am in no doubt caused the men to make off without the car they were looking for.

“We would like to hear from anybody who may have information.”
