A Towy Valley schoolgirl is set to appear on our TV screens tomorrow evening to showcase her singing ability in a talent show with a twist.

Ysgol Bro Dinefwr pupil Erin Lewis is no stranger to taking part in talent contests and has previously won the Junior Voice of South Wales but this time there is a difference - her mum is also taking part.

Erin, 15, and her mum Julia were chosen as one of eight pairs to compete in CBBC’s Got What It Takes, which airs for eight weeks from February 7 at 4.55pm, and are the only Welsh competitors in the series.

Throughout the show, presented by former X Factor contestant Lauren Platt, talented singers and their mums have to compete in a series of tasks and while the mums battle it out against each other, the kids get advice from industry professions and battle between themselves to win a place in the grand final.

Julia, landlady of The White Hart Inn, Llandeilo, signed the pair up for the show after seeing the advert for the show which said ‘is your mum up for a laugh?’ but she didn’t realise how much was actually involved when she answered ‘yes’.

Erin’s mum said: “I had to compete in lots of activities to win a chance for Erin to perform.

“I had an amazing time with the others mum with laughter and tears all around.”

At the end of the series Erin’s place will rely on a 24-hour public online vote on March 28 to get her in to the live final.
