A BLAENAU art director has once again teamed up with award-winning director Danny Boyle in the long awaited blockbuster T2 Trainspotting.

Arwel Evans has drummed up a close working relationship with Boyle having worked with him on a number of films including Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire.

But his latest job has seen him travel to Scotland to work on the hotly anticipated return of T2 Trainspotting.

The 46-year-old said: “I have known and worked with Danny for 11 years and when it finally came about that there was going to be another Trainspotting I jumped at the chance to get on board.

“Who wouldn’t? it’s too juicy a film to turn down – iconic even.”

Filming saw Arwel away from home for 12 weeks but he said he is lucky to have the support of his wife Emma and two daughters Elin and Lowri.

“I lived in a flat in Edinburgh where most of the scenes were shot as well as Glasgow and Bulgaria.

“Filming took around 12 weeks, it didn’t take long – one of the shortest jobs I’ve done to be honest.

“As art director I help create the look of the film. If we decide that someone’s property or pub for example could work as a location for the film we might make some changes to layout and decor to pull it more in line with the overall look and feel of the film and if the perfect location can’t be found, then we build a set accordingly which gives a far greater element of control during the shooting day.”

Arwel said filming in Scotland was an incredible experience and quite the honour.

He added: “As you can imagine it was pretty nuts shooting in Scotland. Everyone is fanatic about the film and there is a massive sense of pride. I am proud to have been associated with it.”

Arwel’s next film credit will be the Justice League’s latest offering Wonder Woman.

Arwel said: “I worked with Ewen Bremner again – Spud from Trainspotting – who is not only fine actor but such a genuinely funny guy.”

Arwel said he is proud of his work with Boyle and speaks fondly of him.

He said: “Danny is one of life’s true gentlemen, kind and humble always thinks of others as anyone who knows him or saw the Graham Norton show (last Friday) would appreciate. Most in his position cover themselves in self glory taking the knighthoods and awards – not so with Danny, politely declined his knighthood and is modest about his achievements .

“I’m a very lucky boy - or old grumpy old git as my daughters would have it.”
