A Gwendraeth Valley woman has gone the extra mile to help a friend in need.
Nicola Griffiths-Evans, of Drefach, has taken part in a fundraising bike ride to help Ailsa Davies, who is currently fighting cancer, raise money for the Breast Care and Chemotherapy Units at Prince Phillip Hospital in Llanelli.
Ailsa along with her support of her husband, and eight friends from cycling group Breeze Carmarthenshire, completed the 54-mile ‘Druid’ ride refusing to let her illness stand in her way.
Nicola and Ailsa’s mother, Alison Scourfield, presented a cheque of £1,850 to consultant Mr Simon Holt on behalf of Ailsa last week.
Nicola, who is part of the cycling group, said: "Ailsa is one of the bravest and most inspirational ladies I know. She is currently undergoing treatment and was at the time of the ride.
“The Druid ride was the furthest that Ailsa had ever cycled. She'd only ever trained up to 20 miles so it really was a phenomenal achievement for her."
Mr Holt, Consultant Surgical Oncologist added: "We are extremely grateful for the support of our local communities across west Wales which enables the breast service at Prince Philip Hospital to offer a world-class service to our patients with access to the most advanced equipment, technology and research available".
