A TOWY Valley mum is getting ready to put on her running shoes to raise money for a charity which has helped her poorly children through difficult times.

Sarah Parry, of Llandovery, has decided to take part in this year’s London Marathon to raise money for Bobath Children’s Therapy Wales, who have helped two of her sons who suffer with cerebral palsy.

The mother of four first discovered the organisation when she had to take her son Jamie, who is now 8, for therapy sessions.

Since attending the sessions in Cardiff with Jamie, Sarah has also had to visit the charity with her youngest son Jacob, who was born 11 weeks early.

The 35-year-old said: “We first learnt of the fantastic work Bobath does when I took my son Jacob there for therapy.

“Since then I have given birth to my youngest son Jacob, who is lucky enough to be a part of the charities better start, better future scheme which offers intensive block therapy sessions.

“Jacob, who is 2, has recently been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. So now it is time for me to give something back, and help other children in Wales like Jamie and Jacob get the help and support they need.”

Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales is an organisation which provides specialist physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy for children throughout Wales who have cerebral palsy.

Sarah, who works part-time as nurse at Llandovery hospital, is now in training to face the marathon on April 23. Although, this is not the first time she has raised money for the charity.

Sarah said: “Last year I took part in three half marathons and one of them was to raise money for Bobath and between me and my husband, Daniel, we raised over £1,800 for the charity between us.

“Bobath were looking for people to run the London marathon this year and I decided to give it a go.

“I have already raised around £500, but Bobath has set me a target of £2,000 and I am determined to reach it.

“It is important for me to raise as much money as possible so that other children in Wales can benefit from the fantastic work that they do.”
