Pupils and staff at an Ammanford primary school have celebrated the opening of the school’s library.

The new relocated library at Ysgol Bro Banw was officially opened by illustrator Beth Saunders last Wednesday, January 11.

Pupils throughout the school dressed up as characters from their favourite books to mark the occasion, and members of the school council attended the ceremony.

During the opening last week, acting head teacher Linda Bates said: “The library is now able to get the children excited about reading and although there are all these excellent electronic devices it is nice for the children to be able to come into the library and look for a book themselves."

The opening was attended by author Marleen Powell and her daughter illustrator Beth Saunders who have both been working with the school pupils through different workshops.

Beth said: “I feel really privileged to come to the school do take part in the workshops. All the children look fantastic dressed up in their costumes and the library looks wonderful.

Literacy co-ordinator Dominic Saunders added: “We are really proud to be able to offer the children such a stimulating environment in order to develop a love of reading.

“Staff at the school have worked so hard to put the library together and the children love it.

“A special thank you must got to Marks and Spencers for their kind donations towards the library as well as all of the special guests that joined us at our special opening.”
