Two Amman Valley youth groups have been getting creative in the kitchen as part of a BBC Children in Need project.

BBC Children in Need and BBC Cymru Fyw, the BBC’s Welsh language online service, has launched a collection of films created by young people sharing recipes to inspire others to learn how to cook.

The project named Dim Popty Ping, which means ‘No Microwave’ in Welsh, features a series of films which have been created by young people from BBC Children in Need funded projects in Wales.

Ammanford's Mess up the Mess theatre group and Canolfan Maerdy's youth club in Tairgwaith have both taken part in the project.

The young people have used smartphones, tablets and DSLR cameras to create the videos which show them preparing a simple meal whilst having fun at the same time.

The films have been created by young people who attend BBC Children in Need funded projects from across Wales and are in different languages, including Welsh, English, Roma and British Sign Language.

Young people across the UK are facing various challenges, such as the difficult transition into adulthood, living independently for the first time or developing basic skills needed such as cooking. These films, created by young people, aim to inspire other young people to have a go at cooking themselves.

BBC Children in Need National Head for Wales, Jemma Wray said: “We’re really excited to have been able to work with BBC Cymru Fyw and some of the projects we fund in Wales, to provide a platform for young people across Wales to share their cookery skills with each other. We know that many young people need these skills before they are ready and this is a really easy way for young people to support each other in gaining basic life skills using a format they are already very familiar and engaged with, and to have some fun with it at the same time. We really want to encourage as many young people as we can to have a go too and share their skills and films using #dimpoptyping.”
