An Ammanford man who was viciously attacked on a night out has been given a Commendation award for his campaign work to reduce alcohol-fuelled violence.

Paul Pugh gave his #PaulsPledge presentation to his family and Cwmamman United friends and former teammates at the Fisherman's, Glanaman last Friday on the 10th anniversary of the vicious attack that changed his and his family's lives forever.

Paul Pugh, now aged 37, was left in a coma for two months and hospitalised for 13 months following an unprovoked assault in Ammanford on January 6, 2007, for which four men were jailed.

Paul brought together family and friends on the evening of the 10th anniversary of the attack, to share his story, talk about the #PaulsPledge campaign and the work he is doing to prevent this from happening to others and to celebrate how far he has come in the 10 years since the incident.

Following the presentation Paul was left surprised after receiving the Commendation Award from Dyfed-Powys Chief Constable Mark Collins.

Presenting the award Mr Collins said: "This is the first award I have handed out in my new post and it is a privilege for me that Paul is the first recipient. The campaign has reached over 4,000 young people across the area which is incredible. If the campaign prevents just one incident from happening again it is worth it."

Paul said: "My time in hospital felt like a lifetime but since I have been recovering time has flown by. My focus now is on my recovery and campaigning for #PaulsPledge.

"The response has been amazing and I now feel it is my purpose in life to get the message out there so this doesn't happen again. It is a simple message - just don't go there.

"Tonight has been a special night for both myself and my family who have been amazing throughout my recovery. I would also like to give a special thanks to the Cwmamman United boys both old and new have always been a great support."

Paul's mum Nesta was also presented with flowers by Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn last Friday for tirelessly working alongside Paul throughout his campaign.
