Amman Valley councillors have launched a petition calling on Carmarthenshire County Council to commit to building a new 'super' primary school in Ammanford.
Last week the Guardian revealed the council's five-year capital programme which had seen the project set back three years - it was initially earmarked for 2017/18.
Ammanford Councillor Colin Evans and former leader of the council Kevin Madge were in Quay Street last Friday calling on the public to sign the petition.
Cllr Madge said: "We have received hundreds of signatures already which is pleasing. We are now in a period of consultation so I would urge everyone to get behind the petition in the hope that we don't lose millions of pounds worth of investment in our children's education in Ammanford."
