WELSH Hearts Calonnau Cymru, the heart charity for Wales are encouraging students of secondary schools and colleges to grab their paints and pencils to get artistic and design a Christmas card.

Meinir Lewis, Mid & West Wales Fundraising Manager said: “We’re asking local students to design a Christmas Card for Welsh Hearts Calonnau Cymru. It will need to be an A6 design which has a heart theme.

"There will be four winners, each winning a life-saving defibrillator for their secondary school or college. Not only that, but the winning designs will become available as Christmas cards to purchase in 2017.”

All entries can be emailed to fundraising@welshhearts.org or posted to The Welsh Hearts Calonnau Cymru Fundraising Office, The Old Probate Office, 49 Cardiff Road, Llandaff, Cardiff, CF5 2BQ.

Ensure that all designs are labelled with the full name, address and date of birth of the artist, along with the secondary school or college that they attend. Entries sent electronically must come to us as a PDF, JPEG, Tiff, EPS file and needs to be 300dpi at the size of the card.

You are asked to include ‘Christmas card competition’ in the subject field.

Meinir added: “The competition will close on Friday, December 9 so please ensure we receive all entries by this time.

"We’re open to ideas so whether artists do a cartoon or a drawing, use pencils or paints – we can’t wait to see what the students come up with."

Welsh Hearts Calonnau Cymru are the leading heart charity in Wales for placing defibrillators in communities and delivering CPR and defibrillator training in Wales. There are an estimated 8,000 sudden cardiac arrests occur outside hospitals in Wales every year, and using a defibrillator, which works to restart the heart during a cardiac arrest, can increase the survival rate by 50 per cent.

In just three years Welsh Hearts has trained over 13,500 people in CPR and placed 457 defibrillators across communities in Wales. 692 people have been screened to detect any heart abnormalities and at least 50 people have been referred for further investigations on conditions detected being hole in the heart and cardiomyopathy.
