An Amman Valley youth centre is giving back to the charity that helped get it off the ground.

Canolfan Maerdy Youth Club in Tairgwaith is holding a sponsored walk on Wednesday, November 16 to raise money for Children in Need after the charity donated a grant to help run its Thursday group.

The youth club, which has been going for 18 months, caters for 11 to 18 year olds and runs each Wednesday and Thursday.

Youth worker Zoe Davies said: “The Wednesday club gives them a safe place to socialise whilst giving them an opportunity to tackle any issues they may have or work through self-esteem problems.

“The Thursday club runs every week but alternates its event. One week we talk about nutrition and eating habits and the following week we get physically active.”

Zoe said the door is open to everyone and she is encouraging teenagers to drop by and see what they have to offer the community.

“It’s a great facility and we always have lots of fun,” added Zoe. “We have now teamed up with education and consulting provider Whitehead-Ross who pay for people to go to Llangrannog activity centre. New members could possibly have the opportunity to attend.”

This Wednesday the club will hold its sponsored walk for Children in Need from 5pm.

Zoe said: “It will be a loud walk around Tairgwaith in fancy dress. We are hoping to make enough noise so residents will come out and support us. We will be heading back to the centre for hot chocolate where all proceeds will go to Children in Need.

“The grant was great for us so this is our way of giving something back to the charity.”
