A FORMER Amman Valley pupil has decided to speak out about her experience with mental health by organising a charity night which is set to take place this weekend.

October 10 marks World Mental Health Awareness Day and Tammy Jones is using the occasion, and her own story, to host an event to raise money for a day hospital in Ammanford.

Tammy, who suffers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, currently receives help from Swn Y Gwynt Day Hospital and has decided to thank the hospital for their support by raising money for the organisation.

The 25-year-old said: “The first thought about hosting a charity night only came into my head about three weeks ago when I was talking to my friend.

“Since then I have made calls to different venues, organisations, businesses and then it became real and the event is actually happening.

“I want to encourage as many as people as possible to come to the event so we can raise loads of money for a fantastic organisation.

“Swn Y Gwynt has helped so many people in Ammanford and the surrounding area, including myself, and I just want to help them as much as they’ve helped others.”

Tammy will be using the opportunity to take to the stage to tell the audience about her own story with mental health and is aiming to inspire people in the same position to speak out.

She added: “I want to remind people that they are not on their own and that there is help available.

“Everyone is welcome to the event, the more people the merrier.”

There are plenty of prizes on offer in the raffle such as a signed rugby ball by Shane Williams, four tickets to see the Scarlets and also two Swansea City v Crystal Palace tickets to be won. Also an auction is taking place, men are getting waxed live on stage and music provided by Eric Top Hat.

The charity night is taking place at Pen-Y-Banc RFC from 7pm this Saturday, October 29. Entry is £2 and you can contact Tammy on tammyjoneskarate@googlemail.com for additional information.
