AN AMMAN Valley business has donated money to a not for profit sporting enterprise which has members representing west Wales in gymnastics overseas next year.

Twelve gymnasts aged between 9 and 13 from Neath-Afan Gymnastics Club have been selected to represent West Wales Gymnastics Academy at the Magical Classic Competition in Florida next February.

Homestyle Cymru, a home window service business based in Betws, has generously sponsored the girls £500 to help fund the trip.

Managing Director of Homestyle Cymru, Jon Dennis, said: “Having heard of the girl's cause, I thought it was only fair to contribute to their trip to Florida.

“I have watched them in training and I was gobsmacked at their skills at such a young age.

“It is training schools like this that will undoubtedly continue to get us medals in the future Olympics and Commonwealth games.”

Neath-Afan Gymnastics Club has been established since 1996 and use their revenues to grow and improve the club for the benefit of the community.

The club specialises in competitive Women’s Artistic Gymnastics and has several youngsters in Welsh Squads, as well as one Women’s Artistic British Squad member.

Team members have recently undertaken various fundraising activities such as bag packing, car washing, car boot sales, craft fairs, and serving hundreds of bacon roll and cakes in the coffee shop of the Cambrian Centre for Activity and at Neath-Afan Gym Centre.

The team are also taking part in a sponsored 'Flick to Florida' which will consist of the gymnasts doing one flick for every one of the 4187 miles to America over a six-week period.

Managing director and senior coach Nicola Lewis said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these girls to compete in the USA.

“They train over 20 hours every week, dedicating their young lives to their beloved sport of gymnastics.

"Sponsors like Homestyle Cymru are making this dream a reality for them and we are very grateful.”

The gymnasts are still currently looking for more sponsors so if you can help then contact the team via their Facebook page and you find out more about the girls story, progress and results at Neathafan.com.
