A TOWY Valley event has been given royal approval after raising over £1,100 for The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise in Wales.

PRIME Cymru, the Prince of Wales’s charity, was delighted to receive a donation of £1,140 raised by the inaugural Llandovery Motorbike Weekend, which took place this summer.

The charity provides tailored support for people over the age of 50 to start their own business to find employment and has its headquarters in Llandovery.

The charity has helped over 11,500 people in Wales to find employment, start-up a business, retrain, or become active community volunteers since it was founded by His Royal Highness Prince Charles 15 years ago.

One of PRIME Cymru’s clients, Jan from Carmarthenshire said: “There is nothing more daunting than to lose your job at 62. It isn’t just about the money, I enjoyed work and I liked having a structure to my days and weeks.

“I hated having to sign on and I became totally demoralised and didn’t think that I’d ever find another job at my age. When I contacted PRIME Cymru the difference I felt immediately was incredible.

“I felt 100 per cent better because they made me feel that I had something to give and that older people have something to offer and I genuinely believe that now.”

Chief Executive of PRIME Cymru, David Pugh said: “Donations are essential to our charity enabling our vital work and reach even more people in Wales aged over 50 who are facing uncertain future.

“We are very grateful to the Llandovery Motorbike Weekend organisers and everyone who attended the event for their valuable donation to PRIME Cymru.”

Llandovery Motorbike Weekend took place in July this year and the crowds were delighted to witness His Royal Highness opening the motorbike procession through the town.

Vintage and classic bikes along with Harley Davidsons and scooters were amongst the dozens of beautiful machines on display along with bike safety promotions and a motorcycle treasure hunt.

Due to the success, Llandovery Motorbike Weekend has been confirmed to take on July 8 and 9 2017 and will continue to develop the road safety and training element whilst contributing to the sustainable future of Llandovery.

The event was organised by Lieutenant Colonel Jonah MacGill, a volunteer mentor for PRIME Cymru, Mrs Sue MacGill and Mrs Kristina and Lieutenant Colonel Kevan Thornber.
