AMMAN and Swansea Valley residents are being reminded to attend a public meeting this Thursday, October 20 to air their concerns over health services in the area.

AM for Mid and West Wales, Eluned Morgan, and County Councillor Kevin Madge have called for the public meeting for patients to share their experiences ahead of a meeting Ms Morgan has arranged with Hywel Dda Health Board next week.

In April 2015, all surgeries covering the upper Amman and Swansea Valleys were contracted to Amman Tawe Partnership, becoming a

‘super surgery’ with around 14,000 patients.

Welsh Labour AM Eluned Morgan said: “I am very aware that GP services are under pressure across Wales. However, there appears to be a particular problem in the Amman Valley and that is why I am holding a public meeting at the Black Mountain Centre, Upper Brynaman on Thursday night at 7pm.

“I want to hear about the service from a patient perspective so that I can lay out the key concerns and make the strongest case possible to the Health Board when I meet them during half term week.”

Kevin Madge, Welsh Labour Councillor for Garnant, who will also be at the meeting said: “From my perspective, I feared the setting up a ‘super surgery’ a couple of years ago, because I was worried that there might not be enough doctors to meet demand. I still don’t feel that services are up to the standards they should be and as the local representative for Garnant, I am pleased that local residents will have an opportunity to share their concerns.”

The Public Meeting will be held at the Black Mountain Centre, Cwmgarw Road, Brynaman, SA18 1BU starting at 7pm on Thursday, October 20.

The Community Health Council has also been invited to attend.
