POLICE officers in Ammanford are asking locals to Be A Nice Guy this Halloween and bonfire night.

As part of Operation BANG, officers and police community support officers (PCSOs) are working with the council and fire service to let people know what they can do to stay safe, while still have fun this autumn.

The scheme – running throughout all the four forces in Wales - aims to raise awareness of personal safety during the seasonal period around Halloween and bonfire night and helps to reduce anti-social behaviour in the community.

Schoolchildren in Ammanford will be taught how to spook safely and the dangers of fireworks with PCSOs visiting every primary school and Police School Liaison Officers running lessons in secondary schools to make sure they have all the information they need to stay safe and behave appropriately.

Pupils will also be warned of the consequences of behaving in an anti-social way ranging from warning letters to possible arrest depending on the severity of the incident.

Ammanford police sergeant Kerry Scoberg said: “Our efforts over a number of years have resulted in fewer complaints of anti-social behaviour. The key message is to have fun, but be safe and considerate to those who do not wish to take part”.
