THE site of Ammanford's former police station has been sold with plans to turn it into a mixed use development.

Carmarthenshire County Council's leader has confirmed discussions are underway with a preferred developer to transform the College Street site.

Earlier this year a Task Force was set up by the council leader Councillor Emlyn Dole with the aim of driving forward regeneration plans for Ammanford.

The Task Force will focus on sites and premises; marketing, promotions and events; environment and access; business support and training.

The group met last week to discuss the plans of the former police station site and following the meeting Cllr Dole said: "We are in advanced discussions with a preferred developer and anticipate that a planning application will be submitted shortly for a mixed use development.

"The proposals will regenerate a key gateway site in the town and contribute to our regeneration aspirations for the county."
