A GOOD year for an M5 service station has continued after being listed in the Good Food Guide.

Gloucester Services has become the first ever motorway services to be listed in the guide since it was first published in 1951.

Entries are chosen by a team of anonymous inspectors and readers and Gloucester Services is celebrated as “the best find ever; a godsend for the journey”.

Good Food Guide editor Elizabeth Carter said: “Given the reputation of the original Tebay Services, we expected a good standard of eating from new sibling Gloucester Services - and we were pleasantly surprised to find the food offering even stronger than we’d hoped.

“From artisan pastries and simple soups to main dishes such as haggis burger with crispy slaw, travellers can expect wholesome and fresh food to sustain them on their journey.

“Moreover, it’s set in lovely landscaped grounds, while honey comes from hives on the grass and flower-covered roof.

“Don’t miss the excellent deli, too. As one of our readers said, “it’s an all-round lovely experience.”

Sarah Dunning, CEO of The Westmorland Family, which owns Gloucester Services said: “What an honour to be featured in the 2016 Good Food Guide.

“Our motorway service areas champion interesting food from their locality and beyond and we are lucky to be able to connect many small, local food producers with the British travelling public.

“Good food is very important to us and it’s great to be recognised for what we do.”
