CWMAMAN Town Council has announced that Cwmaman Park paddling pool will be re-opening this Friday, just in time for the expected heatwave.

The paddling pool, which has been a landmark for almost 80 years in the community, has undergone a complete refurbishment

The Town Council have been given the go ahead by Carmarthenshire County Council, who own the land and pool, to open to paddling pool on Friday, August 12 and councillors are hoping the community make the most of the latest attraction.

Mayor of Cwmaman Kevin Madge said: “We are hoping to see children come down and use the new facilities over the reminder of the summer holidays, in particular this weekend when we are expected to have warm weather.”

The town council has expressed thanks to TRJ of Ammanford and the young apprentices engaged in the Next Steps project, who offered to undertake all the works required at the site at no cost to the local community.

Cwmaman Development Officer, Robert Venus, said: “Without this assistance of TRJ and their staff this phase of the project would not have been possible.

“We would like to wish the young men that worked on the project all the vest best for their futures and look forward to working with the Next Steps scheme in the future.”

The council has said the recent project is a catalyst for further consultation with local residents on what else they would like to see on the site.

A number of community members have already expressed a wish to see a skate friendly park, climbing walls, junior motocross facilities and a development of a splash pad in addition to the paddling pool area.

Cllr Madge, said: “As a town council we are taking all possible measures to ensure that the assets that already exist within our community are used to their full potential.

“Where additional assets can be developed we will work with our residents to ensure that they meet their needs and the needs of our future generations.

“A key part of this is hearing the views and desires of each and every one of our residents, something we will be aiming to achieve in coming months through a community wide consultation exercise.”
