A TALENTED Llandeilo performer has landed the leading role in one of South Wales leading theatre company’s productions.

Ysgol Bro Dinefwr pupil Erin Lewis will be playing the main part of Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, which is being performed by Mark Jermin Stage School, next month.

The young performer has only been a member of the stage school for 18 months and has previously been a member of the chorus in a production of Grease last year, but this time she is taking on the starring role.

The 14-year-old said: “I am so pleased that I have been given the role of Ariel in the show. It is a film I used to watch a lot when I was younger, and a musical I have always wanted to be a part of."

This is not the first time Erin has been recognised for her singing ability and musical theatre expertise, as she has won several local talent shows in Carmarthenshire.

Proud mum Julia Rea, who owns The White Hart pub in Llandeilo, said: “Erin won ‘The Junior Voice of South Wales’ last October atY Ffwrnes in Llanelli, which she competed against over 1000 other excellent performers.

"Erin most recently won ‘The Variety of South Wales’ in February, which was also held at Y Ffwrnes, against groups as well as other solo artists. The heats of these competition were held across South Wales and we travelled to each and everyone one of them."

Julia is particularly looking forward to seeing her daughter take to the stage in Morriston next month.

She said:“I am really excited to seeing Erin in The Little Mermaid, they have all been rehearsing between 15 to 20 hours a week. I have even arranged a bus from the White Hart to go to see Erin and the rest of her stage school friends perform. All the audiences are going to be in for a treat.”

The Little Mermaid is being performed at Morriston Comprehensive School from Thursday 23 to Saturday 25 June. Tickets are available from www.markjermain.co.uk
