AMBITIOUS plans to raise £275,000 for a new x-ray machine in Amman Valley hospital have been announced.

The new mayor of Cwmaman, Councillor Kevin Madge revealed his plans following his installation of mayor for the fifth time.

Cllr Madge said: "As one of my first duties as mayor I want to launch a campaign to raise money for an x-ray machine at the hospital.

"It will be a full year's campaign with lots of events and activities taking place."

Cllr Madge is now calling on people to help with the fundraising my hosting their own events and raising money for the campaign.

He added: "I know the area has a lot of people who like to raise money each year, so I ask that they consider raising money for the x-ray machine.

"The new machine will not only benefit the people of the Amman Valley but the wider community, and in particular those who find it difficult to get to Llanelli or Carmarthen hospitals."

Cllr Madge has announced plans for a mayor's fun run to take place in September.

He said: I also plan to hold a few events throughout the year and hopefully raise much needed funds for the hospital."

Cllr Madge's wife, Catrin, a senior sister at the hospital said the campaign has boosted moral in the hospital.

She said: "It is fantastic to see everyone getting together - so far we have already raised £17,000 which is amazing.

"The money will also provide adequate fencing, new drive and extra parking for the hospital.

"The hospital celebrates its 80th birthday this year so we are hosting a gala party on June 25 at 2pm in the hospital."

The event will be a day of celebration and will include lots of food and cake, plus a car boot sale.

Sister Madge wishes to thank the support and work of the Amman Valley hospital League of Friends who will be working alongside all parties throughout the campaign.
