AN AMMANFORD mum is calling for live CCTV monitoring after her son’s friend was allegedly attacked in the town’s park.

Stacy Bowen was left angry after her son and his friend claim to have been approached and attacked by a man in Ammanford park while they played with toy Nerf guns on Sunday, May 8.

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed they are investigating after receiving a report of an adult male assaulting a nine-year-old boy in Ammanford park.

The man is alleged to have struck the boy at around 12.30pm.

However, following a call to the police Stacy claims to have been told by an officer the parks CCTV camera was switched off so no further action could be taken.

But the police and Carmarthenshire County Council maintain the CCTV cameras are recording 24/7.

Ms Bowen said: “If they are recording then why was this incident not captured on CCTV? Surely live monitoring would be more appropriate to help capture these incidents when they happen.

“My son and his friend, who suffered the brunt of the attack, have been left very shaken by this and the fact that we cannot find him due to lack of CCTV support has left me feeling very angry.”

Carmarthenshire County Council executive board member for Community Safety Cllr Pam Palmer said: “The CCTV cameras are recording 24/7 - it’s just that they’re not being monitored live.

“People can come through to the Community Safety Partnership on 01267 224201 to request a review of cameras.”

Miriam Phillips, Clerk of Ammanford town council who raised the cash to pay for the CCTV camera, said the council were “promised” by the former Police and Crime Comissioner that the cameras were recording 24/7 but not live monitored.

“This issue will be raised at our next council meeting,” she said.

The police are asking anyone with information that could lead to police identifying this man is urged to contact police in Ammanford by calling 101.
