THE restoration of Ammanford’s most iconic building is nearing completion.

The All Saints Project set up to oversee the repair and regeneration of All Saints Church has received cash injections from grant bodies to carry an ambitious modernisation programme at the church, which was forced to close its doors while work was completed.

To mark the completion of works a rededication ceremony has been set for Tuesday, May 24 at 7pm in the church.

Peter Pemberton, grants officer for the All Saints Project said: “It’s been a five year project and we are finally coming to an end.

“We are delighted to welcome Venerable Canon Roger Hughes who will conduct the ceremony.”

On the night there will also be the official unveiling of the stained glass window – consisting of three panes depicting scenes from world war one.

A memory board, made from the originals pews in the church, will feature names of fallen soldiers from the war, researched by Major Ken Burton.

Mr Pemberton added: “Many families of soldiers who fought and died in the war moved away, these names were left off the original, so with the help of Major Burton we are able to give them the recognition they deserve.”

The board was made with the help of pupils and staff at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman.

Locals are invited to help celebrate the completion of the project on Tuesday, May 24 at 7pm.

Mr Pemberton said: “There will be an opportunity after the service for people to have a look around and see the completed work – plus refreshments.”
