EXCITEMENT is mounting with the approach of the 29th Annual Trap Show Charity Fun Run on Sunday May 8, commencing from the Cennen Arms, Trap at 11am.

This has become one of the most popular events on the sporting calendar, regularly attracting runners from all over South and West Wales, and once again, it will be generously sponsored by local firms, Brecon Carreg, Gelli Plant and SJ Griffiths & Son with several prizes as well as a T-shirt for all finishers.

In addition, Dyffryn Cennen Community Council will present each child taking part with a specially minted Commemorative £2 coin, to celebrate Her Majesty's 90th birthday.

Hopefully, this year will be another successful day – the fruition of a great deal of hard work and enthusiasm which goes into the preparation beforehand and organisation on the day.

Last year's event was a showcase of running talent. Winner of the Open 4.7 mile race with a course record time of 23mins 01seconds, was Carmarthenshire's most exciting athlete, Dewi Griffiths of Llanfynydd, the current Welsh Champion and a British International, and Commonwealth athlete.

Runner up was Christian Lovatt of Ammanford, winner of the previous two years - another exciting young talent destined for great things.

TROTS Club runner, Elizabeth Tremlett of Felingwm, took the honours in the Ladies race for the second year running with Sian Trace of Amman Valley Harriers finishing in 2nd place.

Further success came to the athletic Lovatt family of Ammanford with younger brother Callum winning the Junior 2.8 mile race (16min.58), with Trystan Leech of Gorslas finishing in second place. And who can forget the outstanding performance of young starlet Phoebe Davis of Ffairfach, in her last year at primary school, who outshone all senior opposition to take the title for the 3rd year running in a time of 18min 06.

The proceeds of this year's event will be shared between the local agriculture show, and the new X-Ray Unit at Amman Valley Hospital.

So dig out your running shoes, dust away those winter cobwebs and come and join in the fun whilst raising money for this worthwhile cause.

From seasoned club runners to occasional fun runners, from the youngest to the oldest participant - come along and join in the fun and camaraderie - you will be warmly welcomed.

Young runners can be accompanied by an adult, whilst many re-cycled teenagers also turn out to support the nominated charity by walking around this course.

These are among the stalwarts who raise money by collecting sponsor money and selling lucky numbers.

According to the runners who come back year after year, it is a very rewarding and enjoyable day set in a scenic location with Carreg Cennen Castle and the Black Mountains in the background. Added to the notably warm and friendly atmosphere and it is easy to see why it’s such a popular event and an enjoyable day out for all the family. Don't miss it.
