THE parents of Amman Valley youngster Hannah Poole say they are pinching themselves every day after being given the news their daughter is in remission.

Adam and Katrina Poole took five-year-old Hannah for her final treatment last month, where she finally rang the bell to signal the end of her treatment following her two-year battle with leukaemia

Katrina said: “When the day arrived it was a mix of emotions. We never thought the day would ever come.

“Hannah still has to have regular check-ups but everything is going really well. We have our little girl back.”

Although Hannah has come to the end of her treatment dad Adam said he still feels like it’s not quite finished.

“Katrina and I are still on edge, it doesn’t feel real yet,” he said.

“We pinch ourselves every day that we have our life back, but it was such a long struggle it has been tough to adjust back to normal life.”

Katrina added: “We were, and still are to some extent, on edge all the time checking Hannah’s temperature and levels and making sure everything is ok.

"I’m not sure if we will ever really get past that.”

The couple, who live on Tirycoed Road, Glanaman, say they are now able to do things as a family and are able to shift their focus onto their other three children.

Katrina said: “It has been difficult for Katie, Luke and Lucy. We have managed to give them their little treats along the way with horse-riding and football but we now able to do things as a family and focus on everyone together.”

The Poole family will be taking their first holiday together since Hannah was diagnosed with type two leukaemia in November 2013 and will be heading to Germany for a well-deserved break.

Adam said: “I work in Germany and have an apartment there so we are really looking forward to getting away for the Easter holidays as a family.

“We’ve always been advised not to go away so we are all very excited to go on this trip.”

The family said they will continue to fundraise as a thank you for the support they have received for Hannah along the way.

Katrina added: “Adam has taken part in duathlons, half marathons and Katie has also been donated almost £1,400 to Latch after cutting off her long locks.

“I would also like to thank our families and the public who have been amazing and shown us a great deal of support along the way.”
