HUMAN remains have been discovered inside a disused Swansea Valley church it has emerged.

Police are investigating after volunteers working on a restoration scheme found a skull and other human remains inside Llangiwg Church near Rhydyfro.

The remains were been found beneath a floor board under pews last week by some of the volunteers from the Friends of Llangiwg Church who are currently working to renovate the Grade II listed building.

The shocked workers called the police who them removed the bones for forensic examination and the church has been sealed off for further investigation by archaeologists.

A spokesman for South Wales Police confirmed they were called to attend Llangiwg Church in on Monday, March 7, after the bones were discovered.

He added: “The bones have been recovered and are currently subject to forensic examination."
