THE former leader of Carmarthenshire County Council, Kevin Madge, of Garnant, is expected to be unveiled as Labour’s candidate for the role of Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner at the upcoming election.
Cllr Madge has already received the endorsement of three of the six Constituency Labour Parties (CLP) required with the backing of the remaining three expected to be formalised ahead of the February 13 deadline.
“My selection for candidate has been formally endorsed by the Preseli and Carmarthen West CLPs and I have also had the backing of Carmarthen East,” said Cllr Madge, who previously served on the police authority prior to the creation of the commissioner role.
“The Llanelli, Brecon and Ceredigion CLPs are due to meet in the next week or two.
“The role of police and crime commissioner is a vitally important position and I feel I have the experience necessary to take on the job.
“I feel I have a great deal to offer.
“I am certainly not counting my chickens until the remaining three CLPs have reached their decision but I am extremely hopeful I will receive their backing and I am confident I am the right man for the job.”
